Animal Care Attendant

Qualifications:

  • Excellent people skills with 1 year or more experience in customer service position.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Experience working in a veterinary practice (but will consider applicants with no experience if they are motivated to learn and contribute fully to the practice).
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record
  • Current resume with 3 professional or personal references.
  • Person must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a time efficient manner in a high stress environment.

 

Job Summary:

Major Responsibilities will include:

Patient Care – Safe restraint of patients for procedures performed by technicians and veterinarians, care of hospitalized patients including exercise, cage cleaning, providing food and water for the patients, observation of patients for changes in behaviour or symptoms, cleaning and grooming of patients when necessary, compassionate non-medically relevant interactions with patients when time permits.

Facility Maintenance and Sanitation – General cleaning and disinfection of all public and employee only areas of the facility, maintaining a clean, organized, odor-free, attractive facility, general housekeeping and laundry duties.

Client Interaction & Communication – answering client and referring veterinarians’ inquiries by phone and in person, greeting clients, discharging patients, dispensing medications & prescriptions, providing clients with a positive and compassionate experience, communicating pertinent information to the appropriate co-worker, guiding and directing clients while in clinic, providing good communication and support to the team, maintaining a calm, professional, and helpful attitude when interacting with external and internal clients, providing mentorship and support to new employees during their training.

Reception Duties – Accurately inputting client data, invoicing clients, receiving and recording payments, financial accountability for daily balancing of the cash drawer, running and balancing the end of day transaction report.

Medically Current – Participation in continuing education activities, willingness to become familiar with new products and equipment utilized at the facility.

This role is integral to the introduction of this service to our hospital, and applicants with exceptional client care skills, strong organizational skills and a desire to develop their technical expertise will be strongly considered.
